Quality Is Not the Best

First purchase was only shorts and they were great. Second purchase was athletic clothes and the leggings were in worse shape than my oldest ones with saggy butts, plus the shirts didn’t fit. I even ordered them a size up.

I sent several bags and backpacks

I sent several bags and backpacks. Brand new Vera Bradley ($86.00) I received less than $5.00. That is crazy, could have got more on a rummage sale or used it myself.

Stay Away!

I sent two clean out bags in April and only one has been processed to date. The second bag keeps having its processing date pushed back daily and is now scheduled for October, six months after I sent bag in.

Also the payouts are not generous enough. I think I should get a higher payout than Thredup on my Coach bags and other items because I own the item. Thredup charges seller too much money. Seller can adjust the selling price of item but if seller lowers price to try to make a faster sale, this comes out of seller's payout, not amount that Thredup takes for processing.

Selling times are limited too and 45 days is not always long enough time to sell.

I would not donate to Thredup either as they only donate $5 per donation kit to charity and keep the rest. Donate your items yourself to a charity you care about. Thredup advertises itself as being environmentally friendly but that is only a small part of their operation. Getting free items to sell for profit only seems to be their goal.

Thredup takes too much time processing donation kits over consignment sellers because they make money without having to pay a seller so they don't care how long seller has to wait for processing.

Thredup nickel and dimes seller to death with their extra charges for expediting, return assurance and reclaim fees. A fee is charged when seller cashes out too.

I have purchased items at a fair price on the site if you use their coupons and items have arrived fairly quickly.

But still, I'm through with selling on Thredup! Go somewhere else to sell and donate.

Stay away

I’ve sent clean out bags off and on for 6 years now. I never had to wait more than maybe a month for the bag to be processed. I sent in a bag in May( I did not choose the expedited service) and at first the bag was supposed to be processed by mid July that turned into 3 different dates in August, then 2 different dates in September. Just checked today because it was supposed to be processed but now it won’t be done by October and I highly doubt that is going to actually happen. At that point the items I sent in will be out of season so I know my payout is going to be horrible. This site is not worth the hassle.

Garbage Company

So, I got a notice just now that my order shipped out. This was the opposite of what I wanted as I didn't want the shirt or to do business with them. I was told, in a chat just now completed, that the only way that a order can be canceled is via live chat. I guess they ignore emails (even though I got original response that order cancelation was within their time frame for cancelations). I'm not going to pay over $10.00 for shipping/restock fees on a less than $17.00 shirt! That is completely ridiculous. Will go ahead and toss shirt into garbage when received.Ordered a shirt and it was still in the "processing" status after almost a week. Sent request to cancel order and was told someone would get back to me in 5 days. Needless to say, I have submitted a dispute with my bank in the hopes that I will get my money back.

Snail mail is generous, more like pony express

While I have found some really good deals on thread-up, be prepared to wait a looooong time to receive your order. I did NOT choose the delay & bundle option and my orders routinely take 15 days to arrive from Georgia to Arizona. To put that in perspective I recently ordered from Australia that package only took two weeks to arrive! Some of the clothes might be vintage but their shipping is like taking a time machine back to the 80s.
Also many of the measurements are not accurate, clothes are listed in the wrong category, and many clothes are beyond worn some of them look like they were found in a dumpster. Of course you can send them back but that’s another month long process.

Used to be great

Used to be great. Now orders have wrong, damaged and mislabeled items in them. Items are lost before even shipping. I am done shopping here after many years.

Don't shop here unless you like fake, damaged, wrong items

They have no qualms sending you items with holes, stains, wrong labels, outrageous pricing compared to retail value - and then you'll only get store credit in return so you can order more junk. Customer service is a joke. This used to be a great shopping experience but after spending thousands over the years, I'm done.

Horrible selling experience

Horrible selling experience. It took them 10 weeks to process my clean out kit. Then they sold brand new, name brand items for pennies on the dollar. I got $20 for 11 items (6 didn’t sell). This is a rip off. Give your clothes to a local charity - less hassle & you’ll save time and effort. Supposedly thredUp donates the clothes to charity….might as well donate to a charity you know and trust.

Q:

Not so great reviews about selling. Getting ready to send a bagful, but now I am re-thinking. Is it really worth it?

A:

Definitely NOT Unless you want to sell a lot of clothes for less than a dollar an item. Better off just donating.

by Zoey - November 25, 2019

A:

Seriously, don't waste your time. The payout per item is unbelievably small. They must be making a mint, you can see what they've sold your item for, and they truly give you pennies in the dollar. I didn't do this to make a fortune; I actually thought it would be fun to watch. But it is only irritating and disappointing. Also, I sent 4 bags of clothing, and they never processed one of them. It still shows that it is waiting to be processed. Don't bother with this, it isn't as great as it seems.

by Avery Reid - August 31, 2019

A:

Don't sell to them. Right now they have a pair of designer shoes listed that came from me. They are selling them for $40 and I'm expected to make less than a dollar from that sale! They literally take your clothes from you, profit from them and you make nothing. You're better off using a brick-and-mortar consigner to make some money or selling on Ebay. Heck you'd make more having a yard sale. I will never sell to them again. They also conveniently decide not to list items at their discretion and you will never see them again. I wonder if those items just get pocketed by their staff. Very shady operation. I think payouts used to be better and that's why you still see some positive reviews. SELLERS BEWARE

Q:

How and when do i get paid for clothes i mailed in?

A:

Don't do it. Take the clothes to a consignment store and make a few bucks. If you send them here you'll get nothing. It's a scam.

A:

I had a good experience. My first bag is lost from the post office, still trying to track that down. The second time I got $17.00 and two of my purses on consignment. I thought it was easy and had good results. If my handbags sell it will be definately worth it.

A:

Donate to Goodwill and take the tax credit because this place will NOT help you. Go to a local consignment shop sell on Offer Up. I; ve had great luck on it

Q:

I do not understand the last 2 or 3 bags I n=have sent I have not made much... it is frustrating as I believe they are good clothes that I send... and I no they are in good condition... not sure why you do not take more... I am getting tired of taking the time to send you stuff and you not excepting them... please explain why? ThanksCindy

A:

I've had the same experience this year as all of you. My high end designer items have "disappeared" (toddler True Religion jeans) and I am assuming they made it to the "open market" for resale. I've been using ThredUp for 3 years now to consign and this is the first year I've ever had issues. I have filed my complaints and suggest you all file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau also!

I have also reported them to the BBB! This company is not morally sound...

by Welch - November 06, 2015

A:

I hear a lot of negative remarks about thredup, but interestingly enough I have always done better with them than Twice who basically stole a bag of clothes from me. I have sent in five bags, 4 of which since they changed their payout. I have made roughly $150 per bag upfront and usually $250 once consignment items sell. Admittedly I send in designer stuff-BCBG, French Connection, Splendid, etc. and honestly I feel lk it's worth more than what the per item cost of the payout is BUT I'm too busy/lazy for eBay and poshmark and have yet to feel totally ripped off by this company. And for what it's worth I always pay for the bag return fee as they suggest if you are sending in high end items. My one complaint is how long they take to acknowledge receipt of bag, and then to process and pay you.

Q:

What percent of the selling price do sellers get?

A:

I would guess it averages 15%. For instance brand new leather booties, ankle boots, Seychelles brand, that they are selling for about $30 or more and I am going to get $3.60. Whoopie.

Use EBay, offerup, etc or have a garage sale. Give to family member or a nonprofit group for orphans to battered women in your local area in person so you know they got it. Threadup showed 10% on 1st screen went in further says 5%. Then like me you send kids new with/without tags maybe a couple gently used Nike to Carters even Disney brands... big bag 50+. After a month you get notified that they are finally processing your bag. Bam we accepted 4-5only out of over 50! So those items with tags. On many poof! The Nike gone no show on payout. 3 Carters 2Disney only accepted. Rest with tags poof gone. They let you know you now have $1-$3 do you want to purchase something with this? If yes $6.99 shipping plus item cost later your big bag only payed tax rest is out of your pocket. If NO want to cash out your $1-3 is cut in half.If it's now not enough to get a Visa card or PayPal transfer ($1 required or more of course your total is under that after that half cut) which means your 5% payout on only 4- 5accepted items is now 2.5%. If you now have to push bank transfer which cuts your total in half again so 1.25% but every card to account routing number you enter is not accepted so now you walk away with $0. You then tell the BBB sit here with the rest of us after failed customer service attempts plus them noticing a problem but not wanting to fix customer issues at all just comments on your post to save face but their lying as you write the issue here with us. You see your unacceptable items as they would put it listed same day as others you know it's yours because it wasn't a dime a dozen item with tags how many people sent a size 4 Nike shirt black with green letters tags attached? Yeah it's obvious. You look more see more items steaming mad. Rest was 80% new items so you notice folks getting the rescue boxes inbox new items even with tags! Yeah ummm really really you think you now know where the rest of it went. You started out by sending a bag to get credit to buy yourself a new dress maybe a nice shirt for your kid. Now your on eBay spending money to buy yourself y kids clothes cause you don't dare ever give another dime to Threadup! Pretty much that's the low down of course family to friends who knew you sent a bag excited like ask over y over about it... you have to be ashamed you sent your stuff to be hoodwinked say I made $0 it wouldn't let me cashout the 52c I made. They erase the app from their cell ask why you didn't watch the YouTube seller 2018-2019 reviews that are bad... you have to admit you believed the snake oil sales man since I'm older woman I get the do you need a nursing home early look! Like I was on a phone giving out my IRS stuff to fake IRS people. Now everything you mention trying you get a different reaction from family than you used to like your credibility is down to zero. Feels terrible you know you were robbed so delete app and don't speak up for awhile because you have to win your family's trust in your Scrooples back. Yup that's all of it in a bit she'll you end up with 0% back

Wendy do not send your items to these people I am going to screen shot what I sent and what they plan to pay and none of my stuff was listed as sold until I said cancel my bag and send, me my items back that next day everything was pending or sold. How ironic. It will not allow me to post pictures.

Q:

What is with this company. Do you have any conception of the degree of resentment held by consignors.? Your owners must be crazy. The greed factor is clearly at an unprecedented level with the inadequacy of listing reimbursement all of us are discovering. Just as a heads up... someone needs to speak up. They are going to end up in court if they do not get any traction regarding the treatment of the consigning public. This is beginning to smell more like a scam and highly fraudulent than a legitimate selling site. Thought you may appreciate the opinion of someone who consigns on many locations and has the training to spot a possible fraud.

A:

I am a customer. Well i TRIED to be a customer. Placed an order 2 weeks ago. It has not arrived and their complete lack of customer service is appalling. I have a tracking number that doesn't exist and the "Customer service" Reps, I use that term loosely because there is absolutely no service, can't or won't locate the item I paid for. Now I have to go through my bank and charge back. This was my first and last purchase with these losers.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but there will never be a class action lawsuit or any meaningful case against the thieves at thredUP. Their pig CEO from Harvard made sure of it. By simply visiting or interacting on the website you agree that the only legal redress for disputes is through arbitration. YUP - Forced arbitration! The injustice is stifling. He and people like him are a disease. I know he is laughing at us... all the way to the bank. I do believe somehow someday he will get whats coming to him... cancer would be appropriate.

Count me in. Wish i had found this review site, or even thought about reading reviews before sending them a full bag of brand new and once-worn clothes. Some of the items i sent in are not even recorded. Where did they go?
